Busy regional towns are the worst culprits, with Whyalla named as the second-worst spot for kangaroo crashes.

In the past three years, 57 claims have been made in and around the region.

Other regional areas that made the top ten include Port Augusta with 53 claims, and Quorn with 41 claims.

The increase in claims is linked to the rise in animals coming towards busy roads in search of food.

Drivers are reminded that if they do encounter a kangaroo on the road, brake safely and sound the car’s horn if it is safe to do so.
