Netflix Raises Subscription Prices Again: What You Need to Know

Australia is starting to fall out of love with streaming services as it seems like at moment they are all taking turns in hiking up the monthly subscription charges to the point where having more than one is becoming unaffordable for the common household. Netflix increased its membership prices in 2024, impacting all subscription tiers and they are set to do it again so here’s a breakdown of the new Netflix pricing:

  • Standard with ads: Now $9.99/month (up from $7.99).
  • Standard, ad-free: Now $20.99/month (up from $18.99).
  • Premium plan: Now $28.99/month (up from $25.99) — the steepest increase at $3.
  • Adding an extra member to any plan will now cost $8.99/month, reflecting a $1 increase.

For comparison, Netflix’s basic ad-free plan was just $8.99/month when the service launched in Australia. The premium plan, priced at $14.99 at launch, has nearly doubled, now costing $28.99/month.

This marks the second price hike in 15 months, with the premium plan increasing by 26% since May 2024.

Netflix’s focus has also shifted to cracking down on password sharing. In May 2023, the streaming giant began sending emails to Australian users sharing their accounts with people outside their households, urging them to upgrade their plans.
