Port Pirie will once again take centre stage after being announced as the host of the 2027 South Australian Masters Games.

The multi‑sport event will return to the city for the first time since 2019, marking Port Pirie’s ninth time hosting the Games since first welcoming the event in 2000.

Council says strong community support, committed volunteers and modern sporting facilities were key factors in securing the successful bid, which was launched only days before the announcement.

Around 30 sporting codes have already shown interest in participating, highlighting the region’s strong sporting culture and capacity to deliver major events.

Thousands of visitors are expected to attend the Games, providing a boost for local sport while delivering economic benefits for accommodation, hospitality and retail businesses across the region.

Council says hosting the Masters Games will also help activate local sporting precincts and further strengthen Port Pirie’s reputation as a regional events hub.
