GoPro has just revealied the MISSION 1 PRO ILS, a pocket-sized cam that brings interchangeable lenses to the iconic action camera lineup. Weighing in at a mere 197 grams, this tiny device manages to pack a massive 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor and capable 8K video recording into a body that easily fits in the palm of your hand.
Instead of being sealed with a fixed lens like traditional action cameras, the ILS features a passive Micro Four Thirds lens mount. This means creators can swap out glass to achieve completely different looks, moving from wide-angle vintage primes to specialty optics that would never normally fit on a rugged action camera. It shoots 8K video at up to 60fps, captures 4K at a staggering 240fps for smooth slow motion, and supports 10-bit GP-Log2 for serious colour grading.
Smart Monitoring Support
GoPro is also launching MISSION Monitor today. This is a free professional video monitoring solution designed specifically for iPhone and iPad. By connecting your device via a fast USB-C cable, the app turns your phone or tablet into an external field monitor complete with focus peaking, pinch-to-zoom focus assist, zebra exposure warnings, and real-time custom LUT previews. It even features smart power sharing so whichever device has more battery keeps the other running.
MISSION 1 PRO ILS is available for pre-order now for AUD $1,099.95 / NZD $1,399.99 RRP (AUD $949.95 / NZD $1,209.99 for existing GoPro subscribers).
The device sits firmly in a niche of its own. It is not designed to replace your everyday adventure cam for surfing or mountain biking, nor is it a conventional mirrorless setup. Instead, it bridges the gap, offering a lightweight rig option to capture cinematic angles in tight spaces that would intimidate a traditional cinema rig.
