’24 Drought – Resilience at its Best
Drought has had a profound impact on communities across South Australia, and its effects are being felt now more than ever. With 2024 shaping up to be one of the driest years on record, the agricultural industry, which contributes over $14 billion annually to South Australia’s economy, is particularly vulnerable. Apex is organizing ’24 Drought – Resilience at its BEST, a community event aimed at supporting those affected by drought. This event will provide a space for people to come together, access vital services, and share in food, fellowship, and solidarity during these challenging times.
The event will be split into three main sections:
Part 1: Interactive Sessions (4:30 PM – 6:00 PM)
Attendees will choose from one of three concurrent sessions:
Session A: “Cheese, Champagne, and Chit Chat” held in the Football Clubrooms, offering a relaxed space for conversation.
Session B: Fun and games for kids, including water pistol tag, sessions with sports stars, and a variety of activities set up in the Big Shed.
Session C: “B & B” (Beer & Bullshit) held in the shearing shed area.
Throughout these sessions, speakers from various service organizations will rotate between groups, giving informal, 15-minute presentations on available drought relief services, wellbeing resources, and mental health support. This approach ensures that all participants receive the same information, while maintaining a laid-back, approachable atmosphere.
Part 2: Available Services (6:00PM – 6:30 PM)
There will be some time for available services to provide a face to the name or voice and jump up on the main stage to give a very quick run-down of the services available to help throughout this challenging time.
Part 3: Evening Entertainment (6:00PM onwards)
Once the sessions conclude, a communal meal will be served, followed by live entertainment. 2 local artists will perform on the shearing shed stage, a roving magician will entertain children, and a photo booth will be set up for free mementos.
The event will be low-cost for attendees, with free food & soft drinks provided, and alcoholic beverages available at a low price. All speakers, activities, and entertainment will be free of charge.
’24 Drought – Resilience at its BEST is designed to provide an essential sense of community, to share the burdens of drought, and to boost spirits as the year-end holidays approach. By bringing families and individuals together, the event will promote mental well-being and offer crucial support to those in need.
