Local kids chop hair for charity
Wilmington local Stormy McMahon and his three daughters will be cutting their hair through Hair for Heart campaign to raise money for Variety SA.
Now he and his three daughters aged 8, 10 and 13 have a goal of raising $10 000 for Sick Kids in South Australia in the lead up to having their hair cut.
Mr McMahon has been growing his hair and beard to suit their Variety Bash theme ‘The Vikings’ each year, which he will be shaving off alongside his daughters.
“I have never had long hair or a beard. I’ve only done it for the Variety Bash… I said we will make a day of it and see if we can raise a couple of hundred dollars to shave my head.”
“Then my daughters have gone ‘Why don’t we do our hair too dad, we will make heaps of money for Variety.’
The girls help their parents raise funds for Variety Bash each year and have decided to go the extra mile in 2024.
Mr McMahon said the event in Adelaide should bring more attention to their cause, with Variety SA lending a have to spread the word.
People can donate to the cause online through Variety’s website.
Variety will be live streaming the event where the family will be getting their hair cut so people around the state can be part of it.
To raise funds for the Variety Bash the family had organised barbecues and raffles which they will do all year round.
“We don’t stop… we get to see the children that we help on the track and it is incredible to be a part of helping these kids.”
Mr McMahon said one of the local projects in Port Augusta Variety had supported has been the swing designed for children in Wheelchairs located at the playground in Gladstone Square.
“I love the fact that there are people in our own area that benefit from Variety.”
“Since we got involved with Variety in 2016, these three children have been involved… $63 608 is what we have raised as a car as a team and those kids have been there for every single dollar.”
