One of Australia’s most loved heritage railways is marking an important milestone event in 2024. It will be 50 years since Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society ran their inaugural train on the original narrow gauge railway line between Quorn and Summit, a distance of 5 miles (8 kms).

Pichi Richi Railway is holding a weekend RailFest in Quorn. On Saturday 27th July the Society will run two trains, one from Quorn and one from Port Augusta which will unite at Woolshed Flat and the whole combined train, hauled by the two steam locomotives will travel to Quorn. This double-header train is something very special to experience and see.

On Sunday 28th July their operating fleet of steam locomotives and diesel locomotives will be fired-up. Short train trips will be available for passengers to experience heritage rail travel and steam power. There’s also a steam engine light-up, locomotive workshop tours, Devonshire Teas in the “Sidney Williams” CWA Hut, and several other activities suitable for people of all ages.

Aside from the RailFest visitors can enjoy the Award Winning – Quorn Silo Light Show, Pithi Kawi – bush tucker trail, Flinders Gin – tastings, pubs, shopping, cafes, tea rooms and a wide range of accommodation choices. About 10,000 visitors each year enjoy magnificent scenery, local produce and the unique atmosphere of the town and surrounding area.
