A woman’s been arrested after the second fatal car accident on the Stuart Highway in two days.
Police and emergency services were called to the highway at Kootaberra, 50 km north of Port Augusta, around 2:50 pm yesterday, 24 June, following reports a Volkswagen Tiguan had crashed into a tree.
The rear-seated passenger, a 63-year-old man from Victoria, sadly died at the scene, and the three other occupants of the car were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Following investigations, the driver of the car, a 61-year-old woman, was arrested and charged with cause death by dangerous driving, cause serious harm by dangerous driving, and cause harm by dangerous driving.
The woman will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court today, 25 June.
This comes after a 68-year-old New South Wales man died in a single-vehicle rollover on the Stuart Highway 35 km east of Glendambo on Sunday, 23 June.
The two men are the 41st and 42nd lives lost on South Australian roads this year.
