Barunga West Council and the RSL have joined forces to install a newly inscribed wall at the War Memorial at Civic Square in Port Broughton.

The space will feature three flag poles behind the soldier statue and a semi-circular memorial wall.

The Council and RSL decided the inscription will say ‘Lest We Forget’, and council staff have begun working on a concept design.

Barunga West CEO Maree Wauchope says these memorials play a crucial role in communities.

“They provide a way to honour those who lost their lives during WWI and WWII, especially those with no known grave or who cannot be commemorated at their burial sites,” Wauchope says.
