Moonta residents are invited to attend a community update next week on the Australian Cornish Mining Sites – Burra & Moonta world heritage bid.
The session, to be held on Monday, August 19 at Moonta Town Hall from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, will outline how a UNESCO World Heritage listing could benefit both communities.
Guest speaker Barry Gamble, a UK-based world heritage consultant with international experience, will discuss the historical significance of the mining sites and their potential to attract global recognition.
The Moonta and Burra sites are part of South Australia’s rich Cornish mining history, reflecting the state’s 19th century copper mining boom. A successful world heritage bid would place them alongside some of the most culturally significant sites in the world.
The event is free to attend and open to all community members.
