We’re being urged to clean our cars before we hit the road this long weekend to prevent the spread of declared weeds.

Increased travel and off-road activity can unintentionally spread weed seeds across the region, including buffel grass, khaki weed and caltrop.

The weeds are known for spiky and velcro-like burr that stick fast and can be found in high-traffic areas such as highways and football fields.

The spread of these weeds can also have serious consequences for our native vegetation and wildlife.

It’s recommended to clean your vehicle after driving through muddy and wet conditions, and look out for declared weeds.

Report any pest plants to the local landscape board.
