Last weekend, Police conducted a state-wide operation targeting drink and drug drivers, using both static and mobile testing.
In a 52-hour blitz on the roads, police caught 63 drivers under the influence of either drugs or alcohol on our roads.
Officers tested over 11 thousand drivers for alcohol, with 42 drink driving offences detected.
Police also conducted 459 drug tests, with 19 drivers testing positive to drugs.
A total of 49 immediate losses of licence notices were issued and 21 vehicles were impounded.
Superintendent Darren Fielke, Officer in Charge, Traffic Services Branch said it’s disappointing that such high numbers of people think that it is ok to drink and drug drive and It is everyone’s responsibility to drive safe on our roads.
Adding that Any police officer has the power to test any driver, on any road, at any time of the day or night not just during traffic blitz.
