Port Pirie’s potential as a Green Iron Hub has been recognised by Port Pirie Council and Magnetite Mines.
They each signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a framework to collaborate and position Port Pirie for future mineral “value adding” opportunities, while including community and First Nations engagement.
Highlights from the MoU include engaging the State and Federal Government on the development potential, undertaking preliminary planning with community insight, and assessing other partnerships that support a green iron industry.
This comes not long before the Upper Spencer Gulf Major Economic Summit in Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Whyalla, which will see South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas visit and outline the region’s ability to become a renewable energy powerhouse.
