New data reveals a widening gap in disability services for South Australians living outside metropolitan areas, with several regional electorates ranking among the lowest in the nation.

Analysis by KISMET shows the federal seat of Barker as the state’s worst-performing electorate, placing 133rd out of 150 nationally. Meanwhile, the federal seat of Grey also scored poorly, recording 76.9 out of 100, highlighting ongoing service gaps across regional South Australia.

The report points to longer wait times, fewer providers, and staffing shortages as key factors contributing to poorer access for people living outside major cities. Experts say limited after-hours care and inflexible service models further disadvantage residents in country communities.

Industry leaders suggest that flexible work arrangements, mobile services, and innovative delivery models could help address these challenges, improving access to vital support for regional and rural South Australians.
