The Port Augusta Council faces the challenge of keeping the Ryan Mitchell Swim Centre open for the upcoming 2023/24 swim season, following retirements and a lack of staff applications.
The recently upgraded facility, which received $3 million in renovations, requires increased upkeep and supervision.
Unfortunately, no applications were received during the recent recruitment drive to add lifeguards, which could lead to potential delays or reduced hours for the swim season.
Council members emphasized the importance of keeping the pool open, particularly during hot summer days with Mayor Linley Shine emphasising the council’s dedication to finding a solution.
Ultimately, a motion to investigate a service provider for the swim centre was passed.
