Energy company Santos is reviewing its its Port Bonython facility, in an effort to ‘simplify’ operations.

Concerns have now been raised around a number of local jobs at risk, with about 50 people working at the site.

The Port Bonython facility processes gas and exports products like crude oil and naphtha to markets across Australia and Asia.

In a statement last week, a spokesperson for Santos said the company was looking at ways to ‘simplify’ operations to help keep its Cooper Basin projects profitable and cut emissions.

Staff are currently being consulted, and no final decisions have been made at this time.

The announcement comes shortly after Santos confirmed it had received a takeover offer from an Abu Dhabi-based group, looking to buy the company.
