An elderly Victorian man is due to face court next month charged with drink driving after his car hit a teenager on the Gold Coast, seriously injuring him.

Police say the 16-year-old boy was on the edge of the road when he was hit about 9.15pm on Friday at the intersection of Ferny Ave and Cavill Ave in Surfers Paradise.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

A 79-year-old Victorian man was breath tested and allegedly had a breath alcohol concentration of 0.117 per cent.

He was given a notice to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on March 20 charged with middle range drink driving.
