Knives Out, the critically acclaimed 2019 murder mystery starring Daniel Craig and one of the best ensemble casts in recent history, is set for not one but two sequels!
Netflix has paid more than $400 million for the rights to the two sequels, which like the first movie will be written by Rian Johnson of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Looper fame.
We’re thrilled to hear Craig will reprise his role of Benoit Blanc with his fabulous southern accent (such a nice change from all those Bond movies).
And it looks like the sequel is heading towards another star-studded cast, with Edward Norton, Dave Bautista and Janelle Monae so far singing on in as yet unspecified roles.
With filming set to start in late June in Greece we’re sure to be hearing of more casting decisions soon!
We don’t know much about the plot yet, except that Craig will be solving a totally different mystery once again centred around multiple suspects. It’s going to be a fun ride!
Knives Out was a massive hit for fans and critics alike and tells the story of master detective Benoit Blanc as he investigates the untimely death of renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer), where everyone from Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff is a suspect.
The cast includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Toni Colette and Christopher Plummer, who filled the storyline with wonderful humour and kept us guessing right until the end.
If you haven’t seen Knives Out yet, now’s the time to catch up! Grab yourself some doughnuts and see if you can solve it before Benoit does (and yes, be sure to quietly thank us when you get to the doughnut scene, were you confused too?!).
Fun fact: Rian Johnson was going to cut Blanc's doughnut speech, but Craig convinced him that it was good. Watching Craig deliver it sold Rian on keeping the entire thing.
