A man has been arrested after stealing a car in Port Augusta and allegedly attempting to set it alight.
Police will allege that they were called to a hotel in Tassie Street after reports that a Mitsubishi four-wheel-drive was taken from the drive-through bottle shop. The car was later located on the Stuart Highway, north of Port Augusta.
Crime Scene investigators then examined the vehicle, which had amounts of diesel fuel poured through it what is believed to be an attempt to destroy the car, yet the vehicle had not been set alight.
Police arrested a man charging him with illegal use of a motor vehicle, property damage, breach of bail and providing a false name.
He was refused bail and remanded in custody.
