Whyalla City Council is ensuring the community can have their say on a proposed development by fish farm operator Clean Seas before any agreements are finalised.

Clean Seas have made their third pitch to the Whyalla Council after their first two proposals were declined due to environmental concerns.

Council CEO Justin Commons advised that several factors in clean seas current pitch meant that Council willing to re-engage with the company on a revised proposal and approach.

Mr Commons has now been authorised by the Elected Council Members to negotiate a suitable draft agreement with Clean Seas to operate at the Point Lowly Marina for up to three years.

The Whyalla City Council advises that community consultation will focus on the balance between diversification of the economy– including new industry and employment opportunities – versus protecting tourism, recreational use of the Point Lowly facility as well as potential access arrangements.

Residents will be advised in the coming weeks on how they can have theirsay on the proposed development.
