A Whyalla chef has been crowned with creating South Australia's Best Pub Burger following a battle of flavour held in Rundle Mall.
The Head Chef of the Eyre Hotel, Patrick Spriggs, battled it out against 11 other challengers in front of a panel of expert judges and hundreds of Adelaide shoppers.
His creation, called a ‘Smash Burger’ involves "smashing" the beef patty to achieve a more intense flavour, and this is ultimately what got him the win with judges praising the creation.
While some might think cooking in the middle of Rundle Mall is a bit daunting, Mr Spriggs says he wasn't feeling the nerves.
Mr Spriggs says he was proud of his final product and called the burger "close to perfect", despite cooking in front of so many strangers and with only two grills and a pan between three people.
The SA Best Burger Challenge was held by the Australian Hotel Association as part of the Tasting Winter Series.
