Kadina’s Ascot Theatre (formerly Ideal Theatre) will today celebrate 100 years of lights, camera and action.

The Ideal Cinema located in Graves Street, Kadina, was declared open on July 20, 1921 by late town Mayor, Mr Leslie Shepley.

Builder Russell Hawke used locally acquired limestone to construct the grand theatre, which cost £18 thousand pounds or 36 thousand dollars, and was all raised by local investors.

Now one hundred years on, the Ascot Theatre remains a significant building in the community, housing both the Ascot Gallery and Statewide Cinema Kadina, as well as being used to host various local events.
