Over the past few weeks, a large volume of organic material bound for mulching and composting has been contaminated by some Port Augusta residents who have placed rubbish and recyclables in the “Green bins”.
The Port Augusta City Council has now been hit with a fine of $256 per tonne of ratepayer’s money to dispose of the contaminated green waste.
The Council has reminded all residents to sort waste into the correct bins so they can be disposed of correctly.
The council earlier this year was forced to foot the bill to dispose of illegal dumping that had been occurring on Yorkeys Crossing.
