Over 200 residents in Coobowie and Wool Bay could be left without a post office, with the current service located in the Coobowie General store set to close.
With an aging population and a lack of bank branches which spans regional Australia, residents rely on the store for their post and banking capabilities as well as other essential shopping.
Australia Post has told Darren Smith, who purchased the general store in December last year, that he cannot hold a postal licence due to a prior criminal offence.
Should a solution not be found by the end of this month the service will be removed from the store.
Australia Post spokesperson says they are committed to continuing postal services for the Coobowie community and are currently seeking expressions of interest to operate a Community Post Agency in town.
