Pirie Hotel Closes Due to COVID Restrictions

A popular Port Pirie hotel says it has been forced to close due to the latest COVID restrictions, as the number of active cases still remains high around the region.

In a Facebook post, the Federal Hotel says it has become unviable to open its doors for normal trade, and they risk offending their regulars by enforcing the 1 to 4 square metre rule and not letting people in during busy days and nights.

The hotel says the strain and toll on their staff has contributed to their decision and they’ll use the time to consider their future in hospitality.

Currently, Port Pirie has 86 active cases, while Port Augusta has 107, the Copper Coast has 98 and Whyalla has 77.
