Port Augusta Hospital's leading Paediatrician, Dr Nigel Stewart, is set to retire this month.
Dr Stewart began serving the Port Augusta and Outback community in 1993, moving to the region to become the sole regional paediatrician at Port Augusta Hospital.
He worked in areas involving child protection, behavioural management, issues for children, rural education and developmental issues, and he was also instrumental in the creation of the Northern Regional Paediatric Service including outreach clinics around much of rural SA.
He has received several awards for his contributions to the profession over the years, including the federal AMA Excellence in Healthcare Award.
FUNLHN's acting chief executive officer, Angela McLachlan, has thanked Dr Stewart for his valuable contribution to the region.
Dr Stewart will step down at the end of this month.
