Barunga West's old council chamber building is in need of urgent repairs.
The Edmund Street building, located directly behind the current council office, requires attention to its external facade and areas affected by salt damp.
In the last decade the building has been used by the Port Broughton Genealogy Group for meetings, research and storing records.
Council CEO Maree Wauchope has urged councillors to take steps to fix the old chamber or risk losing the building.
Ms Wauchope says the works are estimated to cost in the vicinity of $35,000, and the matter will be raised again at the next council meeting.
The single-room building was erected as the first office chamber for the District Council of Port Broughton back in 1895, and served the council for 60 years before a new building was completed on Bay Street.
