Port Augusta could soon become the home of the world’s largest battery storage system.
Pangea Energy met with Port Augusta City Council to discuss the proposal, and although the development is yet to be approved, Mayor Sam Johnson says it looks likely to go ahead.
Pangea Energy have already purchased a large holding of industrial length land between Port Augusta and Stirling North.
If the proposal goes ahead, construction for the project will commence next year, resulting in a temporary influx of jobs, with twenty full time positions becoming available post-construction.
Mayor Johnson says Pangea Energy want to be somewhere that will embrace the technology, and believes there is a general desire to make renewable energy succeed in the region.
