Former Premier Jay Weatherill took a tumble over the long weekend, breaking his leg in the Mount Remarkable National Park.
The CFS responded to a call around midday on Sunday for an injured walker that needed extraction.
Mr Weatherill fell while hiking through a creek in Hidden Gorge at around 10:30am.
Rescuers reached him at 1:30 pm and started carrying him out just before 3pm. It took two and a half hours for them to reach the waiting ambulance.
The former premier was a little embarrassed for causing a fuss but thanked the park rangers, emergency services workers, the hospital staff, the kind strangers that helped carry him out and his family for their help.
Mr Weatherill was treated and later discharged from the Port Pirie Hospital.
