Royal Life Saving Australia has released the 2017 to 2018 National Drowning Report which has shown a decrease in drownings from last year.

The report has identified there were 249 drowning deaths across Australia with only 15 of those in South Australia.

110 were in coastal waters, 61 in rivers, creeks and streams, 33 in swimming pools and 20 in lakes and dams.

These figures show a 14% decrease in deaths in comparison to last year.

The Royal Life Saving Society CEO says this is the lowest number of drowning deaths ever recorded in Australia however, people cannot become complacent about water safety.
