Police are currently investigating the theft of historic military items from the Port Pirie RSL.
It is alleged that between August and September unknown persons entered the RSL War museum display and stole a soldier’s slouch hat from the 1966 Battle of Long Tan in Vietnam and a Japanese World War II air-raid siren.
The area where the slouch hat was stolen is believed to have been just outside the scope of a security camera in the museum.
The sub-branch has now banned people from taking backpacks or bags into the museum to prevent future thefts.
Several years ago, flags were stolen from outside the Port Pirie RSL.
Anyone with information relating to the thefts are urged to contact crime stoppers.
