A Whyalla man has been issued an expiation notice after allegedly lighting a fire in his backyard on a total fire ban day.
Just before 5pm Saturday police and fire crews were called to a home on Harvey Street, Whyalla Norrie after reports that a fire had been lit in the back yard of residential property.
The rubbish fire was extinguished by MFS while police spoke to the 40-year-old occupant.
He was issued a $375 fine for lighting or maintaining fire in the open during fire danger season.
Police will be on high alert during the summer months and remind the public to be aware of fire danger season dates, total fire ban days and other relevant information.
