John Pirie Secondary School has been shortlisted by the Department for Education to trial year 7 in high school from 2020.
The school has been chosen alongside 3 other schools in the state for the pilot program which will provide valuable insights into how students and staff transition into secondary school setting.
John Pirie Secondary School has been short-listed for the pilot die to their strong connections with primary schools, and focus on progressive approaches to teaching and learning.
The SA public education system will be moving year 7 to high school in 2022 bringing the state inline with the national curriculum.
The pilot program will run in 2020 and 2021.
The other high schools short-listed for the pilot program are Mitcham Girls High School and Wirreanda Secondary School.
Participation in the pilot is voluntary. Whether it goes ahead depends on the number of parents who register interest for their current year 6 children to enrol as a year 7 at JPSS in 2020.
Local primary schools in Port Pirie will also be able to register their interest for their current year 6s for 2020.
