The State Government will re-open the Spencer Gulf and Yorke Peninsula for King George Whiting fishing this year after listening to the views of South Australian commercial and recreational fishers.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone says King George Whiting will be back on the menu this May after significant changes to the spawning season closures.
He says an analysis of spawning behaviour science has enabled the government to open up waters previously closed.
An extra 4,100 square kilometres of fishing grounds will be open during the May spawning period.
