The Spencer Gulf will reopen for King George Whiting fishing this weekend as closures are lifted in waters off the Yorke Peninsula and in the Gulf.
The targeting, take and possession of King George Whiting by all fishing sectors is prohibited in these smaller closure areas until Saturday.
The State Government has opened up waters previously closed, with an extra 4,000 square kilometres open during the May spawning period, including areas such as Corny Point and Pondalowie Bay.
Minister for Primary Industries Tim Whetstone is urging recreational fishers to be open to targeting a range of alternative species on offer in South Australian waters.
