A new committee of inaugural Aboriginal leaders has been formed in Port Pirie to combat barriers faced and represent the Aboriginal community.
The Aboriginal Community Action Group will also seek funding for a range of projects to get things moving.
The committee is made up of seven people who have been working with Mayor Leon Stephens and Deputy Mayor Councillor Alan Zubrinich.
Mr Stephens said he is excited to see what the committee can do.
“Now that this committee is established, they assure us they will be seeking grant funding for many things such as a Community Youth Centre, employment direction officers, segues to secondary and tertiary education, health advisory and better community cultural programs designed to integrate our communities,” Mayor Stephens said.
