A structural deficiency has been highlighted during a recent assessment of Port Pirie’s Butler Bridge.
During a recent asset condition and engineering assessment of the bridge, located on Old Broughton Road, the trafficable surface of the bridge showed significant signs of deterioration which is due to the age and loading on the structure.
In order to preserve the remaining condition of the bridge, it was determined by a third-party engineering consultant that the loading limit needed adjustment.
Council have since endorsed a 10-tonne load limit per vehicle using the bridge, while installing signage for the new load limit and appropriate detour signage shortly.
The new loading limit will remain until a long-term solution is determined.
