30 athletes and 10 carers from Port Pirie have attended the Special Olympics State Games that took place in Adelaide.
The Torch Relay was a highlight with Kellie Martlew holding the torch and lighting the flame. The relay started at the Marion Shopping centre and arrived at Westminster School for the Opening Ceremony.
Athletes competed in six different events that took place across three days.
Port Pirie athletes all competed in Tenpin Bowling, coming home with placement ribbons and medals, with Maxine Bowden the Chairperson for the Special Olympics Spencer stating, “Tremendous sportsmanship was displayed across the weekend.”
The team are expected to attend the events next year.
