The Port Augusta City Council have received close to $400,000 dollars in funding under the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure’s Support Regional Aviation Initiative.
The Port Augusta Airport, will now see a ‘Precision Approach Path Indicator’ lighting system installed, which acts as a visual aid on the runway, allowing pilots to land aircrafts safely.
The lights are also essential for jet aircraft operations in low visibility conditions and night time landings.
Port Augusta City Council CEO Mr John Banks has stated “The light system installation is a requirement of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations.”
Following the installation, Port Augusta Airport will be fully compliant with new regulations, which will be of benefit to the city by enabling jet operations to continue into the future.
