The Whyalla Jetty’s unique design is taking shape, with nearly 50 piles being driven into the sea bed this week.
Whyalla Council have stated that the jetty will be 165m in length, which is 38m longer than it’s previous, with the looped design starting approximately 60 metres off the breakwater.
Concrete planks have arrived at the construction site, with some of the headstocks have already been placed.
Speculation that the Jetty would not be to the size it was quoted has been dismissed by Council Infrastructure Director, Kristen Clark who has responded saying, “It may look to some like the jetty won’t be 165m long, but that’s exactly what it will be as per the agreed design and plans.”
Council have put together a diagram of the new structure with measurements, which you can view below.
