In a world first, a flu vaccine has been created by artifical intelligence in South Australia.
The computer was running a program and invented a completely new drug, unassisted.
Flinders University Professor, Nikolai Petrovsky, oversaw the trial during which the computer identified an effective vaccine.
The AI in question has theoretical ability to interpret information and respond with new ideas.
Provided with existing drugs which were both successful and unsuccessful against the flu, the AI identified an effective alternative.
With this advance in medicine, a 12-month clinical trial will commence in the US.
