Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
This particular cross-counrty runner experienced both at a recent race in the Netherlands.
21 year old Jimmy Gressier was taking part in the European U23 cross-country men's race on a particularly wet and muddy course.
He was in fine form and was leading the race comfortably however his grand finish line plans didn't quite go to plan.
In his attempt to slide across the line on his knees in the mud he didn't quite have enough slip to make it the whole way across the line. Instead falling headfirst into the finish line tape and into the mud.
That's sure to dent the pride a little bit!
He still came away with the winning medal and an impressive time of 23 minutes and 37 seconds.
