We finally have a trailer for the remake TV Series of the classic 80s film “Time Bandits” and it looks epic.
Apple TV+ debuted the trailer for the upcoming live-action comedic adventure “Time Bandits,” the first-ever television adaptation of the beloved cult classic movie by the same name. Created for television by Jemaine Clement (“Flight of the Conchords”), Iain Morris (“The Inbetweeners”) and Taika Waititi (“Reservation Dogs”).
“Time Bandits” is an unpredictable journey through time and space with a ragtag group of thieves and their newest recruit: an 11-year-old history buff named Kevin. Together they set out on a thrilling quest to save the boy’s parents — and the world. The 10-episode series will premiere globally with the first two episodes on Wednesday, July 24, followed by two new episodes every Wednesday through August 21, 2024.
The source material saw some very innovative storytelling by Terry Gilliam and the remake aims to retain the essence of Terry Gilliam’s cult classic while updating the themes of imagination, friendship, and the consequences of meddling with time. The trailer shows some cutting-edge special effects used to bring its fantastical realms vividly to life.
Take a look at the original trailer from 1981 for comparison. The film has been showing on SBS World Movies in the last few weeks. We’d forgotten that 007 himself Sean Connery makes a cameo in it.
Although it looks very different to the original film this series has a talented ensemble cast so hopefully they can maintain the humour and heart of the original.
Consisting of 10 episodes, “Time Bandits” is produced for Apple TV+ by Paramount Television Studios, Anonymous Content’s AC Studios and MRC. Clement, Morris and Waititi executive produce, write and direct select episodes, with Clement and Morris serving as co-showrunners. Garrett Basch and Tim Coddington also executive produce, along with Jane Stanton who executive produces for Handmade Films.
History’s greatest heists await. Discover the adventure. Time Bandits premieres July 24 on Apple TV+
