Why Zooper Doopers are suddenly trending (and just in time for summer too!)

The iconic Aussie Zooper Dooper is trending on Twitter thanks to a user posting a photo of coloured, ice-filled plastic tubes and asking what they are.

Damien Scott asks questions at @MadScientistFF and this latest one has quickly racked up 1 million views and nearly 8,000 replies.

People were quick to jump in with a variety of answers including icees, ice pops, freeze pops, freezy pops and flavor ice (clearly an American with that spelling).

But then the Aussies started replying, because of course they’re called Zooper Doopers and we won’t hear it called anything else.

“You guys have the best names for everything,” replied a person from New York, while someone else insisted it was another made-up name that we Aussies like to create to mess with visitors.

Zooper Doopers might be the taste of summer but they come with a price, including cutting the sides of your mouth and the struggle to convince your mum to buy the REAL deal.

And who remembers when they were called Funny Faces?

While summer has been a bit hit and miss this year – cool in Queensland but roasting in Tasmania by local standards – we reckon there’ll always be space for a packet of Zooper Doopers in our freezer!
