Those who didn’t make it to Cuttlefest will have to wait until next year, as the 2023 season has come to a successful end.
The event brought more than 10,000 people to the region from May to August to enjoy the return of the Giant Cuttlefish to Spencer Gulf waters.
And not only did people show up in hordes, it’s estimated more than 100-thousand cuttlefish visited Point Lowly for their annual spawning aggregation.
Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone says Cuttlefest was great for the local economy, as visitors would extend their stays to participate in the host of events on offer.
He also says this year’s Cuttlefest highlights the work done to protect the cuttlefish, allowing their numbers to rebound from their record low ten years ago.
