Heavy Vehicle Strategy Hits Speedbump

Under the new access strategy, heavy vehicles soon have to adhere to curfews, speed limit changes and wet weather restrictions in an effort to improve safety for tourists and also reduce wear on unsealed roads.

GPSA CEO, Brad Perry says the measures would have severe impacts, including risking efficiency, grain quality and creating driver fatigue.

152 unsealed roads have been recommended for 30km speed limits and no heavy vehicle operations in wet conditions, or between 5pm-7am.

The YP contributed 1.5m tonnes towards the state’s 8.7m tonne harvest last season.

Public consultation on the strategy closes at 4pm today.
