Qantas has announced plans to boost its flight services at Whyalla Airport. The airline will be adding eight additional weekly flights to its Adelaide to Whyalla route, aiming to fill the void left by Rex Airlines.
The flights will operate on Monday mornings, Thursday and Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings starting from July 1.
Whyalla City Council Mayor Phill Stone expressed satisfaction with Qantas stepping in to fill the gap left by Rex Airlines but emphasized that the council remains open to re-engaging with Rex and other airlines, expressing a desire for a level playing field and cooperation.
Mayor Stone also highlighted ongoing discussions with the federal government to develop the airport further, with an anticipated increase in passenger traffic due to the upcoming $2 billion hydrogen precinct development.
