A 15-year-old boy from Whyalla Stuart has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly assaulting a police officer late on Thursday.
The boy, who was reported missing by his family, was found by the officer in a park on Wittwer Street.
According to reports, when the officer approached the boy to check on his welfare, he was struck twice in the head with his own torch.
The officer sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but has been discharged since then.
The boy was later located at his home that evening and immediately arrested and charged with attempted murder.
However, the charge was later downgraded to aggravated assault causing harm and causing harm to a prescribed emergency worker.
The 15-year-old is expected to appeared in the Whyalla Magistrates Court today on Friday.
